Chevrolet Just Fixed The Worst Thing About The Corvette

The eighth generation mid-engine Chevrolet Corvette has been an unmitigated success.
The radical reboot has been a strong-seller since it launched in 2020 and each new model has raised the bar on performance.
The 670 hp Z06 had the most powerful naturally aspirated V8 of any car and the hybrid E-Ray that followed was the quickest Corvette ever.
That’s going to change soon when the 1,064 hp ZR1 launches in a few weeks with a quarter-mile time of 9.6 seconds and a top speed of 233 mph.

Chevrolet is apparently already working on something even more impressive than that for 2026 that’s expected to be called the Zora, but it looks like all Corvettes will be getting a much-desired update to their designs.
If there’s one Corvette feature that’s been almost universally criticized it is the buttress between the driver and passenger that has a row of climate control buttons on top of it. It’s clumsy to use and not a great look, especially since the buttons aren’t perfectly aligned.

Several 2026 Corvette prototypes have been spotted being tested on public roads, however, and photos reveal that this issue has been resolved in a major way.
The latest published by CarScoops show that the car will have a traditional row of climate control toggles beneath a new touchscreen display on the dashboard. The buttress remains, but has been refashioned into an upholstered beam with open space within the triangle it creates.

It has also removed the door over the cupholders on the center console, but the interior appears to be otherwise mostly the same.
Unfortunately, that means the second worst thing about the Corvette remains, which is its similary awkward pushbutton gear selector. Hopefully, for those who dislike it, the Corvette will get another update that addresses this before 2032.
