This Custom 1965 E-100 Might Be The Coolest Ford Pickup On The Planet

They don’t make ’em like this anymore!
The 1965 Ford E-100 was best known as a van, but was also offered in a pickup model that took advantage of its forward-control cabin to offer a seven-foot bed in a vehicle less than 14 feet long.
It was offered with the choice of a 170-cubic-inch or 240-cubic-inch straight-six engine, each paired to a three-speed manual transmission, and was very much meant to be a utilitarian vehicle. That doesn’t mean it can’t be cool.
The Hagerty Marketplace currently has a custom E-100 with a five-window cab up for auction that’s been turned into a California cruiser.

The fully-restored vehicle features turquoise paint and hand-painted woodgrain-style panels on the sides.

The brown interior is trimmed with turquoise and white leather and inserts on the doors and instrument panel. There’s a custom center console and a hula dancer on the dash that is period appropriate for a beach-themed vehicle.

The cabin is topped with a canvas sunroof and the steering wheel and audio system are modern. The steel wheels are also painted turquoise and white and are wrapped in fresh Doral tires.

The vehicle is specified with the 170 engine and shows 2,890 miles on its odometer since the restoration.
E-100 pickups in good shape often sell in the $25,000 range and the bidding on this one had reached $10,000 at the time this story was published. The auction runs through 4:30 p.m ET on May 28 and it is being offered with no reserve.
The first generation E-100 was built from 1961 through 1967. Its successor moved the front axle forward of the seats and the hood got even longer as it was redesigned two more times leading up to today’s E-Series.
Update: It sold for $11,770
