The first photos of the all-new 2026 Jeep Cherokee have been released.

The compact SUV is set to go on sale late this year and fill a slot in Jeep’s lineup that has been vacant since the last generation Cherokee was discontinued in 2023.

The new one features boxier styling and will be available with a new hybrid powertrain, according to Jeep, but technical details have not yet been shared.

“The all-new Jeep Cherokee headlines our efforts to deliver more product, innovation, choice and standard content to customers than ever before,” Jeep CEO Bob Broderdorf said in a news release.

“Jeep Cherokee will boast competitive pricing that strikes at the core of the largest vehicle segment and sits perfectly between Jeep Compass and Jeep Grand Cherokee to bolster our winning mainstream lineup.”

The previous Cherokee was launched in 2014 and its U.S. sales peaked at 239,437 in 2018. It was built at a factory in Belvidere, Ill., that is now slated to produce a new midsize pickup for the 2027 model year.

The new Cherokee shares its platform with the all-electric Jeep Wagoneer S and is expected to be built alongside it at Stellantis’ Toluca Assembly Plant in Mexico.

Jeep’s overall sales have fallen significantly in recent years and the new Cherokee is seen as key toward reviving the brand’s fortunes. Jeep will also be launching the new all-electric Recon on the same platform as the Wagoneer S and Cherokee soon, but the next-generation compact Compass has been put on hold.

Earlier this month, Jeep teased the upcoming reveal of the 2026 Grand Cherokee, which will receive a mid-life redesign.
