Wanna Buy A NASCAR Track? Rockingham Speedway Is For Sale

Rockingham Speedway has been put up for sale following its very successful return to the NASCAR schedule this year.
The track had fallen into disrepair and financial straits after hosting its last Cup Series race in 2004 and last Truck Series race in 2013.
Rockingham Properties owner Dan Lovenheim purchased it in 2018 and worked with the state and local governments to refurbish and repave the facility with an eye on bringing big time racing back to the venue.
NASCAR last year announced that the Truck Series and Xfintiy Series would race there this April and the weekend was a huge success. The Xfinity race was sold out and the Truck series race nearly so. Fans and drivers alike praised the races and overall event.

Talk has already started about bringing the Cup Series to the track soon, but it will require some additional upgrades to the facility. The list includes improvements to the garage, new displays, more concessions and possibly an expansion of the grandstands. The current setup can seat about 25,000 fans, which is about half what it held during the track’s glory days.

“We’ve basically taken it in first gear as far as we can go, building it out, getting it ready for bigger and better hands,” Lovenheim told The Charlotte Observer. “And the time is right to pass the baton to someone who can take it farther than we can.”

A fixed asking price hasn’t been announced, but Lovenheim said that a buyer would be chosen by July 1.
NASCAR has not yet released its 2026 schedule, but it would be very surprising if the Truck Series and Xfinity Series didn’t return next year. There’s also the possibility that it could host the Cup Series Clash or All-Star Race before a points race returns.
