Nissan Is Killing The Cheapest Car In The USA – Report

Nissan has ended production of the lowest priced vehicle sold in the U.S., Automotive News reports.
The Mexican-made 2025 Nissan Versa currently has a starting price of $18,330, which makes it the only vehicle that costs less than $20,000.
It’s also the last car equipped with a five-speed manual transmission. The base price for a Versa with a automatic transmission is $20,130.
Nissan delivered just 19,130 of the subcompact sedans through the first quarter of 2025, while the compact Sentra that is also built in Mexico racked up 54,536 sales.

Automotive News haas reported that Nissan is looking to move Sentra production to the U.S. due to the Trump administration’s new tariffs on imported vehicles. Sentra pricing starts at $22,730 today and includes a standard automatic transmission. Nissan has not yet made any tariff-related adjustments to its MSRPs.
Nissan has confirmed that production of the five-speed Versa S has ended, but has not commented on the Sentra manufacturing report.
The lowest-priced U.S.-Built vehicle for 2025 is the Toyota Corolla, which is made in Mississippi and starts at $24,640, while the Kentucky-built Ford Escape is the lowest-priced model built domestically by a U.S. brand and starts at $30,645.
