Chevrolet Says It’s Beating Ford At EV Sales

Chevrolet has pulled back the curtain on its electric vehicle sales because it pulled ahead of Ford this year. GM typically only reports sales quarterly, but it posted an update on how many EVs it delivered through May.
Chevrolet reported 37,620 deliveries during the period to 34,132 for Ford, according to The Detroit Free Press. That makes Chevrolet the second-best selling EV brand behind Tesla, which delivered more than 128,000 vehicles in just the first quarter. Hyundai is the fourth best-selling brand with less than 25,000 deliveries.
GM delivered a total of 62,830 vehicles across Chevrolet, Cadillac and GMC to cement its claim for the number two slot in EV sales. GM also builds the Honda Prologue and Acura ZDX, which accounted for 22,535 deliveries through May.

Both GM and Ford have rolled back their EV sales targets for 2025 from where they were a couple of years ago and headwinds remain. Both the Chevy Equinox EV and Mustang Mach-E are manufactured in Mexico and now subject to an import tariff and Ford has already announced a price increase for the Mustang Mach-E.

While GM has slowed its production ramp, it continues to introduce new electric models, including the 2026 Cadillac Vistiq and Optiq-V, while Ford isn’t expected to expand its lineup beyond the Mustang Mach-E, F-150 Lightning and E-Transit van until 2027.

GM in May also confirmed that it is investing $888 million in a new generation of V8 engines that will be used in its next generation large pickups and SUVs starting in 2027, even as it adds new full-size electric pickups and SUVs to the Chevrolet, GMC and Cadillac lineups.
