This Is How You Ship 24 Ford Mustangs To France By 747

There’s a herd of American Mustangs in France right now.
Ford is holding two Mustang Challenge races at the Circuit de la Sarthe in conjunction with the 24 Hours of Le Mans this weekend. The one-make series features identical Mustang Dark Horse R competition cars.
The track-only model sells for $145,000 and features a 5.0-liter V8 tuned to crank out more than 500 hp, a Borla racing exhaust, Brembo competition brakes, Apex wheels shod in slick tires, a roll cage and a Recaro racing seat.
The series is primarily held in the U.S., so all of the cars needed to be shipped to France, which presented a unique logistical challenge for the competitors.

Ford Performance has released a video on the process, which involved packing 24 of the private team-operated cars onto a 747 freighter at Greenville-Spartanburg International Airport in South Carolina.

Scan Gobal Logistics was given the task and said it had to coach the teams on how to pack. Each was allotted eight cubic meters of space for all of the equipment and spare parts they needed to bring. Everything made it to France just fine. Ford shipped another 20 from Detroit by, well, a ship.

Two 45-minute races will be held on Friday and Saturday and will feature series regulars and a selection of development drivers from the Ford Performance stable.

There is also a celebrity class of “Dark Horse Stars” that will feature Actor and NASCAR Truck series driver Frankie Muniz, racers Taner Foust and Chelsea Denofa, Top Gear host Chris Harris, Olympic cyclist Chris Hoy and Ford CEO Jim Farley. The races will be broadcast on the IMSA YouTube channel.

Ford is also competing in the 24 Hours of Le Mans with two Mustang GT3 cars fielded by Proton Competition, but it has bigger plans for 2027 when it launches a Hypercar class effort that will compete in IMSA, WEC and the 24 Hours of Le Mans, where it will be going for the overall win for the first time since it last won in 1969.
