2027 Cadillac XT5? This Is Probably It

One must live.

General Motors confirmed this week that production of the Cadillac XT5 will continue at its Spring Hill Assembly plant in Tennessee for years to come, even as it discontinues the XT4 and XT6 internal combustion engine-powered crossover SUVS to focus on its new lineup of electric models.

The plan is part of a $4 billion investment in U.S. manufacturing that will also see production of the Chevrolet Blazer move from Mexico to Spring Hill when it is updated in 2027. The XT5 was Cadillac’s second-best selling model in the U.S. during the first quarter of 2025 behind the Escalade.

This makes sense as both models are built on the same platform, but the XT5 launched in 2017, so the architecture is approaching its past due date. At least the one that underpins the XT5 that is currently sold in the U.S.

Cadillac debuted an all-new XT5 in China last year that wasn’t meant to come to the U.S. as the brand was working toward going all-electric here. Now that that’s changed, there’s a good chance that it will be replacing our XT5, but a Cadillac spokesperson told American Cars And Racing that it has nothing to announce yet.

The Chinese XT5 is designed on a platform shared with the latest Chevrolet Traverse, GMC Acadia and Buick Enclave, which are all built in the U.S., so GM is in a good position to add another model. Make that two, of course, as the updated Blazer will surely continue to be closely related to the XT5.

As for the Chinese XT5, it features a mild-hybrid version of the turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine and 9-speed automatic transmission available in today’s American-market XT5. Its interior has the 33-inch widescreen digital display used in most new Cadillacs.

The U.S. XT5 is also offered with a 3.6-liter V6 and the current Blazer can be ordered with that or the 2.0-liter turbo. General Motors was planning to introduce new plug-in hybrid powertrains in some U.S. models, but it has not yet confirmed which models will get it and the expected upcoming changes to the federal tax credits available for plug-in hybrid purchases may affect the plans.

The XT5 and Blazer won’t be the only vehicles built at Spring Hill Assembly, as production of the Cadillac Lyriq and Vistiq SUVs will continue alongside them.
