The Jeep Wagoneer COV Is A COP Car For VIPs

Jeep is best-known for its history of military service, but now it is joining the police force.
The Jeep Wagoneer Command Operations Vehicle (COV) is a new law enforcement version of the full-size SUV meant for VIP transport and motorcade operations.
It’s not armored, but it is equipped with hidden lights, speakers and sirens and an auxiliary wiring harness that can support radios, computers and other mobile office equipment. Jeep is also offering a variety of cargo and weapon storage setups.
It gets the Wagoneer’s 420 hp “Hurricane” turbocharged 3.0-liter inline-six-cylinder engine and adjustable air suspension system, plus a full package safety equipment and driver aids that includes a night vision camera and adaptive cruise control.

“The Jeep brand’s reputation of rugged refinement sets the stage to make it the standard-bearer for our law enforcement and VIP protection program for years to come,” Ryan Austin, Stellantis law enforcement program manager, said in a news release.

The vehicle is also specified for comfort with eight-passenger seating, leather upholstery and a three-zone climate control system. A fixed price hasn’t been publicly announced, but a retail Wagoneer with similar options runs around $80,000.

The Wagoneer COV is the only Jeep in the Stellantis law enforcement lineup, which also has the Dodge Durango Pursut SUV and Ram Special Service vehicles in light duty 1500 and heavy duty 2500 versions.

The Wagoneer is built on a truck platform that is related to the Ram 1500, which is also available with the Hurricane motor, but comes standard with a 3.6-liter V6. Ram has announced plans to reintroduce a V8 engine option for the Ram 1500 this summer, but has not yet confirmed if it will be offered on the Special Service truck.
