Ram Launches 10-year/100,000-Mile Warranty In Lee Iacocca-Style Move

Famed Chrysler CEO Lee Iacocca shook up the auto industry in the late 1980s with a seven-year/70,000-mile powertrain warranty and now one of his successors at Stellantis is taking it to the next level.

Ram CEO Tim Kuniskis has announced a standard 10-year/100,000-mile powertrain warranty on the brand’s upcoming 2026 model year trucks and vans, including heavy duty models.

Ram currently offers five-year/60,000-mile coverage, as does its competitors Ford, GM and Toyota.

Ten-year/100,000-mile warranties are more common for upstart automakers, like Hyundai and Kia, but Ram is in a rebuilding period as it looks to claw back truck sales that have fallen nearly 30% since 2019, when it briefly had the second-best selling truck lineup in the U.S.

Kuniskis cited today’s trends toward vehicle financing periods that are often longer than the included warranties, with 80% of truck buyers financing for five years or more.

The warranty covers the engine, transmission, transfer case, driveshafts and differentials and is good for all models, including diesels and the high performance Ram 1500 RHO and Ram 2500 Power Wagon, but is only for retail customers. Fleet purchases come with a five-year/60,000-mile warranty.

Ram will be adding a new engine to the list for 2026. Well, it’s an old one that is returning. After discontinuing the Ram 1500’s 5.7-liter Hemi V8 option in 2025 it is coming back this summer, due to customer demand.

Another pickup that will be left out of the program is the new Ram NASCAR Truck Series entry, which is scheduled to start racing next February when the 2026 season kicks off in Daytona. Ram has yet to secure a team to run its trucks, but is confident it will have several vehicles entered next year.
