2026 Ford Explorer Tremor Revealed With Off-Road Chops
The Ford Explorer Timberline has been felled by a Tremor. The 2026 Explorer Tremor replaces the discontinued Explorer Timberline as the three-row SUV’s rugged model.
The Tremor trim has been expanding across Ford’s pickup and SUV lineup and is also available on the 2025 Expedition SUV, where it has been accounting for more than 16% of sales.
The Chicago-built Explorer Tremor follows a similar formula with a one-inch suspension lift, three skid plates, all-terrain tires and a unique front fascia with auxiliary off-road LED lights in the grille. It also features 18-inch wheels with all-terrain tires and a Torsen limited-slip rear differential.
The standard engine is a turbocharged 2.3-liter four-cylinder rated at 300 hp, but, unlike the Timberline, the Tremor is also offered with the 400 hp turbocharged 3.0-liter V6 found in the street performance Explorer ST. Both engines come paired with a 10-speed automatic transmission.

The interior gets the Tremor line’s signature grey upholstery with orange trim and Tremor logos. Ford’s Copilot 360 package of electronic driver aids a 360-degree camera are standard while the Blue Cruise hands-free highway driving system is available. Massaging front seats and a 14-speaker B&o audio system are also on the options list.

The towing capacity has not been confirmed, but the Timberline was rated for 5,300 pounds with the 2.3-liter engine and Ford’s promotional photos for the Tremor depict it pulling a trailer carrying motorcycles.

The Explorer Tremor isn’t meant for the sort of extreme off-roading that a Bronco is capable of, but has been engineered to handle rough roads and mildly challenging terrain.
