Brad Pitt Finally Got To Drive A Real Formula One Car

Brad Pitt did a lot of his own driving during the filming of “F1 The Movie” but the car wasn’t as authentic.
The APXGP car driven by his character, Sonny Hayes, was a 2018 Formula Two car that had been modified to look like a current Formula One car.
Formula Two cars are much less costly to operate and the vehicles needed to be equipped with provisions for cameras to be attached.
They’re also a bit easier to drive than a Formula One car, but still plenty fast. The 1,664-pound single-seaters have 620 hp engines and are capable of top speeds approaching 210 mph.

Pitt didn’t have a background in racing, but from recent interviews it sounds like he got a bit of a taste for the speed and now he’s had the opportunity to quench it in a big way.
McLaren has posted a new video series that reveals Pitt took one of its 2023 Formula One cars for a drive at the Circuit Of The Americas in Austin, Texas.
Pitt is show getting a lesson in a McLaren 720S road car from former Formula One driver Martin Brundle before strapping-in to the MCL60 as current McLaren Formula One driver Lando Norris watches him head out onto the track.

“[Expletive deleted] Fantastic,” Pitt said over the radio as he returned to the pit without incident. “It all felt good, I just need to get on it more, trust it more. It’s a whole lot bigger horse than I’ve been on.”
“What a rush.”
“F1 The Movie” has been praised for its cinematography, which includes footage shot during race weekends, both with the camera cars and with special high definition cameras mounted to cars from the actual competing teams.
It opened at the top of the box office in its first weekend, with a $55.6 million domestic and $144 million worldwide take.
