Hennessey Reveals 1,700 Horsepower Dodge Demon V8 For $200,000 — Hear It On The Dyno

The Dodge Challenger SRT Demon 170 has been out of production since 2023, but remains the most powerful muscle car ever made.
Its supercharged 6.2-liter V8 was rated at 900 hp when running on gasoline, but cranked itself up to 1,025 hp with E85 in the tank.
Neither Dodge, Ford, nor Chevy has surpassed that in a muscle car-type model, but the Corvette ZR1 does have a 1,064 hp twin-turbocharged 6.2-liter V8. Hennessey has now strapped a couple of turbos to the Demon’s engine to create a 1,700 hp monster motor.
Well, it did a lot more than that. It took a Demon 170 ‘Hellephant’ crate engine, removed the supercharger, bored it out to 7.2-liters ( 440-cubic-inches), engineered custom heads and other parts and installed two Precision Turbos 7576 turbos running at 22.5 pounds of boost.

A new video shot in June showing the engine undergoing a dynamometer test reveals that it makes a little more than 1,700 hp and about 1,400 lb-ft of torque to go with it.

Hennessey expects a Demon 170 with the engine will do a quarter-mile in 7.90 seconds at 175-180 mph, which would handily beat the stock Demon 170’s 8.91 seconds at 151.17 mph in a race.

It is offering the engine and installation to up to 12 Demon 170 owners for $200,000 each and will wrap and crate the factory motors for storage. The Demon 170 had a base price of $100,361 and fully loaded examples sold fore more than $130,000, but often sell for $200,000 and more on the auction circuit today.

Interestingly, Ram CEO Tim Kuniskis, who was Dodge CEO when the Demon 170 was developed, is featured in the video observing the test, but he hasn’t publicly revealed what he was doing there.

Hennessey does also tune Ram trucks, however, so something very interesting may be in the works.
