Chevy Is Working On A Car That’s Even Crazier Than The Corvette ZR1X

You’d think a 1,250 hp car would be a mic-drop moment for Chevrolet, but you don’t think like Tony Roma.
The Chevrolet Corvette chief engineer told Top Gear that a model with even more performance than the Corvette ZR1X is likely on the way.
Full performance specs for the ZR1X haven’t been released, but Chevrolet has confirmed that the hybrid will be able to accelerate to 60 mph in less than two seconds and cover a quarter-mile in less than nine seconds.
Roma said he expects the top speed to match the 1,064 hp Corvette ZR1’s 233 mph max velocity, but that is hasn’t been officially tested. He added that he doesn’t think owners will actually try to achieve that speed, but like to know the car can do it when they write the $175,195 check.

He also said Chevy would like one of the Corvettes to be the fastest American car around the Nürburgring, but it doesn’t have an time to release just yet. Even if it claims the title, Roma said his team isn’t done working on the eighth generation Corvette.

“So I think we are going to continue to make the car faster for those bragging rights, because our customers appreciate that. It’s the same with any performance car manufacturer – we push each other with Nürburgring lap times for that reason,” he told Top Gear.
“The backbone we’ve built into the C8 is proving to be super capable,” he said. “The things we’ve learned from creating the various models so far and the opportunities we have in the future with this chassis are incredible. The ZR1X is not the end of the story, it’s just the latest chapter.”
Roma didn’t give any hints at what the next Corvette model might entail, but recently said that an all-electric version is definitely not in development since the technology doesn’t exist to make one that would satisfy customers.
