The Electric Subaru Uncharted Debuts With A Feature That Subaru Last Offered In 1997

Subaru Uncharted

The 2026 Subaru Uncharted is the latest collaboration between Subaru and Toyota. The brands have worked together before on cars like the BRZ/GR86 sports car twins and the Solterra/BZ4X electric SUVs.

The Uncharted is another of the latter and related to the new Toyota CH-R subcompact model. Both will be built in Japan for U.S. sale.

The Uncharted will be the first front-wheel-drive Subaru sold in the U.S. since 1997. Since then all of its models have been all-wheel-drive, save for the rear-wheel-drive BRZ.

The Premium FWD will be the entry-level trim and available in limited quantities. It has a 221 hp motor and is expected to deliver more than 300 miles of range per charge.

The Sport and GT trims both get a 338 hp all-wheel-drive system good for 0-60 mph acceleration in less than five seconds and an estimated range of 290 miles.

While not outfitted as a serious off-roader, Subaru said the Uncharted has been developed for driving on gravel, dirt and snow. All models feature heated seats, mirrors and wiper de-icers and the Sport gets water-repellant upholstery, a heated steering wheel and an X-Mode Dual Mode with Grip Control setting for the traction management system for improved performance on loose surfaces.

The Uncharted’s charging system uses the Tesla NACS-type adapter and is compatible with the Tesla Supercharger network. The charging rate tops out at 150 kW and a charge from 10%-80% capacity takes around 30 minutes.
