Hear It: Gas-Powered Dodge Charger Sixpack’s ‘Gnarly’ Exhaust Sound Revealed

The Dodge Charger will soon be burning rubber … and gas.
The new muscle car that launched with an electric powertrain will be available with the new Sixpack turbocharged 3.0-liter straight-six in the coming weeks.
Dodge hasn’t confirmed a release date for the model, but it is heading to showrooms soon, possibly before the end of the summer.
Along with the internal combustion engine, the Sixpack-powered Charger will have a conventional exhaust system instead of the electronic Fratzonic Chambered Exhaust that’s featured on the electric Charger Daytona.

Paul Tyll, Dodge’s Director of Muscle Cars, told American Cars And Racing that it is being tuned to sound “gnarly” and, while it hasn’t officially been demonstrated to the public yet, we now know what he means.

Video of a Sixpack-powered Charger being filmed for a commercial in Detroit has surfaced on Reddit, as reported by The Drive, and the sound coming out of its twin exhaust pipes can be heard loud and clear.
It’s still far from the bellows that were made by the last generation Charger’s many V8 engine options, but louder than the other performance model that uses a version of the engine, the Ram 1500 RHO.
The Sixpack-powered Charger will come standard with all-wheel-drive and will debut with a 550 hp version of the engine, while a 420 hp version will be added later. The exact name of the cars haven’t been announced, although rumor has it that Outlaw will be used for 550 hp models and GT for 420 hp models. But they may not be the only new Chargers on the horizon.

It’s widely expected that Dodge will bring V8 engines back to the Charger lineup, as Ram is with the Ram 1500 pickups. While that hasn’t been officially confirmed, Dodge fan and YouTuber ButterDaInsider has posted photos of a Charger prototype being tested on the street that the photographer said sounded like it had a V8.
