T. rex is almost ready to hunt raptors again.

A new report says that the high performance Ram 1500 TRX pickup is on track for a revival next January. The last TRX went out of production in February 2024 as Ram began a shift away from V8 engine trucks.

The TRX’s 702 hp supercharged 6.2-liter V8 had been the most powerful production internal combustion engine ever available in a full-size pickup before the arrival of the 720 hp Ford F-150 Raptor R in 2024.

The F-150 Raptor R remains in production, while Ram’s highest performing model is currently the 1500 RHO, which is essentially the TRX powered by a 540 hp turbocharged 3.0-liter inline-six-cylinder engine.

But now that Ram has decided to bring V8 engines back starting with the 5.7-liter Hemi late this summer, an updated TRX appears to be a sure thing.

Sources tell Mopar Insiders that production of the new TRX is scheduled to start in late January 2026. Ram hasn’t officially confirmed the model’s resurrection, but CEO Tim Kuniskis said there is plenty of new product coming over the next year and a half. In fact, when TRX production ended, Kuniskis said the model was “on the shelf,” rather than discontinued.

In the case of the 5.7-liter Hemi, Ram just brought the old one back without any changes, but that likely won’t do for the TRX, which will need to reclaim its position at the top of the powerful pickup food chain. The supercharged 6.2-liter V8 is capable of delivering a lot more power. Versions of it have been featured in Dodge muscle cars in 797 hp, 807 hp and even 900 hp guises.

Kuniskis has also recently been put in charge of all of the Stellantis owned American brands, including Chrysler, Dodge and Jeep and announced the return of the SRT performance division, which is reportedly involved in the new TRX development.
