See It: Brittany Force Smashes Her Own NHRA Record With 343 MPH Pass

Brittany Force is in a competition with herself.
The John Force Racing driver has once again set a new NHRA top speed record with a 343.16 mph pass during qualifying at the Sonoma Nationals.
That beat the 341.85 mph mark she’d set just a week earlier at the Northwest Nationals, with 1.31 mph representing a huge difference in drag racing.
She now holds nine of the top 10 fastest speeds in NHRA history with eight a coming this season at 340 mph or faster.

“We have to get the engine so close to the edge,” Force’s crew chief David Grubnic said on FS2 when explaining how Force’s car is so fast, noting that the engines have a mandated rev limiter.
“What we have to try and do is get the engine to the point of where it’s at the brink of hurting itself or destroying itself, but the retarder saves it, and it’s very very touchy to do that.”
