Just a few days after camouflaged prototypes were spotted being tested on public roads, Chevrolet has released the first official photos of the 2027 Bolt.

The electric subcompact SUV is a rebooted and updated version of the Bolt EUV that went out of production in December 2023. Chevrolet has confirmed that it combines a reengineered chassis with a new drivetrain that uses LFP (lithium-iron phosphate) batteries, which are cheaper and more durable than other types commonly used in electric vehicles, but not as power-dense. Chevrolet says the new car is “better than ever.”

“More details will be revealed in a few months. For now, we can give you a quick preview of what’s to come. There will be updates to the front fascia and rear tail lamps, a NACS charging adapter port, and some other cool stuff that…we’ll show you later,” the company said in a news release.

The NACS charging port is the Tesla-style design that will allow it to use the Tesla Supercharger network without an adapter. All major automakers are in the process of adopting the form factor and other networks are adding NACS cables to their charging stations.

The front and rear lighting designs are significantly different from the old Bolt’s, but photos of the prototypes show that the body between them is largely the same.

However, it appears that the front and rear overhangs have been extended to make the vehicle slightly longer. Chevrolet hasn’t said why, but it could be to accommodate new equipment or crash structures.

Bolt production will take place at the Fairfax Assembly plant that previously built the Chevrolet Malibu and Cadillac XT4 that have been discontinued. Chevrolet will also begin manufacturing the internal combustion engine-powered Equinox there in 2027.

Chevrolet hasn’t announced the new Bolt’s price, but it will slot beneath the $34,995 Equinox EV in the brand’s electric lineup.
