Official: The V8-Powered Ram 1500 TRX Is Coming Back

T. Rex is almost ready to roar again! Stellantis CEO Antonio Filosa has confirmed that the V8-powered Ram 1500 TRX model will return to the lineup soon. He made the revelation during the automaker’s second quarter earnings call.
Speaking about the company’s growth plans, Filosa said that “the V8 engine on versions such as the Ram 1500 TRX will deliver to us additional volumes.”
He didn’t offer any more details, but also discussed how 40% of truck buyers won’t even consider a brand that doesn’t offer V8 options and praised the Ram team for bringing V8s back to the 1500 lineup in an incredibly short amount of time for such a project. He said it will have been just 10 months from the green light to production, when the trucks hit showrooms later this year.
“By acting decisively and quickly, we are reactivating many buyers who have been screaming to have the Hemi back,” he said.

No additional information about the TRX was shared, but a recent report from Mopar Insiders said that it is slated to go into production late next January.

Production of the TRX ended in February 2024 as Ram worked to eliminate all V8 engines from its light duty truck lineup, but it is now working to reverse that decision under new company leadership and in light of new U.S. government policies regarding corporate emissions regulations.

The last TRX had a 702 hp supercharged 6.2-liter V8 and it is likely that engine will be rebooted for the new one, but with more power. While it was the most powerful internal combustion engine pickup for a while, the Ford F-150 Raptor R now holds that title at 720 hp.
The TRX V8 is capable of much more power, however, as versions of it have been featured in Dodge models with up to 900 hp running on gasoline and 1,025 hp while burning E85.

As for the other V8-powered Ram 1500 models, Filosa reconfirmed that they will be on sale later this year. The 5.7-liter engine is essentially the same as the one that was discontinued and is rated at 395 hp and 410 lb-ft.
