They’re two of a kind!

A pair of rare Dodge Challengers with matching VINs [Vehicle Identification Numbers] will be crossing the block as a pair at the Mecum Auctions even in Monterey on Saturday, Aug. 16.

The cars are a 2018 Challenger SRT Demon and 2023 Challenger SRT Demon 170, which remain the ultimate V8-powered muscle cars. Both share a supercharged 6.2-liter V8 that’s rated at 808 hp in the Demon and 900 hp in the Demon 170. That is unless you fill the latter’s tank up with high octane E85 fuel, which cranks up the power to 1,025 hp.

Dodge had a special program where owners of the 2018 Demons could order a 2023 Demon 170 with the same serial number. In this case that’s PH102516 and JH102516. It’s the sort of feature that the most enthusiastic car collectors drool over, especially when purchasing limited edition models.

It may have also placated a few, who thought the 2018 Demon was going to be the last great muscle car, before Dodge extended the Challenger’s life and went on to create the Demon 170.

Nevertheless, Dodge built just 3000 of each for the U.S. market and these two were both ordered by a man named James — as noted on their window stickers — with B5 Blue paint and black interiors. They are mostly loaded and had list prices of $98,191 for the Demon and $135,131 for the Demon 170.

Unlike many Demon owners, James actually drove his cars a fair amount. Demons often show up at auctions with barely more than delivery miles on their odometers, but this Demon’s odometer shows 3,433 miles and there is 780 miles on the Demon 170’s.

As for what they are worth, Mecum estimates they will sell for $200,000 to $250,000, but that might be short-changing their appeal. A similar pair was offered at Mecum’s Kissimme, Fla. event last year and got a high bid of $370,000 that wasn’t enough to meet their undisclosed reserve.

According to Classic.com, the average sale price for the models individually over the past year has been $119,462 for the Demon and $152,139 for the Demon 170, which would $271,601 combined, not taking into account the novelty of identical identification numbers.

Of course, there may be triplets in the future. The new Dodge Charger powered by a turbocharged 3.0-liter straight-six goes on sale soon and all signs are pointing toward the revival of a V8 model in the future that could potentially include a new version of the Demon’s engine. Nothing’s been confirmed, but Ram is bringing back the 1500 TRX that last used a truck version of the supercharged 6.2-liter V8, so a resurrected Demon seems likely.
