Shane Van Gisbergen made it four for five on road and street courses this season with an easy win at Watkins Glen.

The Trackhouse Racing driver won by more than 11 seconds after watching last year’s winner Chris Buescher and this year’s pole sitter Ryan Blaney split the first two stages.

Van Gisbergen took the lead for the final time on lap 73 of the 90-lap race after a pit cycle and never looked back as the largely uneventful race stayed green the rest of the way.

Van Gisbergen sits 25th in the season standings due to his performance on oval tracks, where he has just one top 15 finish this year, but the wins have given him the third most playoff points behind Denny Hamlin and Kyle Larson.

There are two more races before the playoffs, which kicks off with three tricky ovals in the first round at Darlington, World Wide Technologies Raceway and Bristol, which van Gisbergen will have to survive to make it to the second round where the Charlotte Roval cut-off race awaits as the last non-oval event of the season.

“it ain’t gonna be easy, that’s for sure, the first round has some very difficult left-hander tracks for me, but, I’m getting better at it and I’m enjoying myself and it’s a challenge, you know, but that’s why we’re here and we’ll have a proper crack,” van Gisbergen said on USA after the race.
