See It: Ford’s $30,000 Electric Pickup Is Probably Going To Look Like A Mustang

Ford has confirmed plans to launch a $30,000 electric pickup in 2027.
It’s being built on a new “universal” platform that will spawn a range of vehicles that includes SUVs and vans, but the first will be a Maverick-sized pickup.
Ford said it will be aerodynamically efficient and have as much passenger space as a Toyota Rav4, but hasn’t released all of the details, including what it will look like. At least not to everyone.
A video Ford played during the announcement showed workers at the Louisville Assembly Plant getting a first look at the truck without showing more than small parts of the vehicle on camera.

However, in one shot of a sheet being removed from a prototype another vehicle can be seen in the background with some of its shape and body lines evident. It looks a little familiar, but not like any of Ford’s current trucks.

The low hood slopes towards a hood and headlights that bear a striking resemblance to the Ford Mustang’s, in a similar fashion to the way the Mustang Mach-E SUV’s styling does.

When American Cars And Racing asked Ford if it is, in fact, the truck, the response was, “We look forward to revealing the vehicle next year when orders open.” That’s definitely not a “no.” Another shot form the video showed a small part of an uncovered hood and windshield.

Regardless of what it looks like, it will be built on an all-new platform that’s constructed of three sub assemblies. The central one holds the battery, seats and consoles and ones on each end contain the motors, suspension and wheels.
Ford sais the pickup will be as quick as a turbocharged Mustang EcoBoost and that the low center of gravity provided by the floor-mounted battery will make it fun to drive, so it might live up to the pony car styling, even with the bed attached.
