Now this is what you call hauling!

The Chevrolet Corvette ZR1X may have beaten the Ford Mustang GTD’s American Nürburgring lap record, but the Blue Oval brand isn’t sweating it, because it just embarrassed the Corvette with a van.

Not just any van, of course, but the Supervan 4.2, which is a 2,000 hp electric racing vehicle inspired by the Ford Transit van.

Ford Performance driver Romain Dumas piloted the all-wheel-drive vehicle to a 6:48.393 lap, which was nearly a second faster than the Corvette ZR1X’s 6:49.275 time and, of course, also beat the Mustang GTD’s 6:57.685 lap.

It’s far from an apples-to-apples comparison, as the Supervan 4.2 is a purpose-built track car that was running on slick tires, while the Corvette ZR1X was in street-legal trim and driven by one of its development engineers, rather than a professional racing driver. But that doesn’t make the van’s performance less impressive.

The Supervan 4.2’s time was the ninth fastest ever officially recorded at the 12.9-mile track, which includes a 6:05.336 lap driven by Dumas in 2019 behind the wheel of the VW ID.R, another electric demonstration vehicle.

Ford dedicated the Supervan 4.2’s time to the late celebrity racing driver Sabine Schmitz, who famously tried to break the 10 minute mark in a stock Ford Transit van on the show “Top Gear” and came just 12 seconds from the goal.

Ford said there’s more to come, as it also had the F-150 style SuperTruck at the track on August 4 and was spotted with the Super Mustang Mach-E, both of which use chassis and electric drivetrains similar to the Supervan 4.2’s. A Mustang GTD was was also in attendance, which suggests Ford may have tried to take its record back from the Corvette ZR1X, but it hasn’t suggested that a new time is on the way.
