Rasmussen Ends Palou’s IndyCar Wins Record Chase At Milwaukee

Christian Rasmussen picked up his first career IndyCar win in style on Sunday at the Milwaukee Mile with an amazing pass on pole-sitter Alex Palou.
Palou had dominated leading 199 laps of the 250-lap race, but a late caution period for rain with 40 laps to go gave Rasmussen the chance to grab a fresh set of tires and go for it in the closing laps.
The Ed Carpenter Racing driver then proceeded to drive on the jagged edge as he chased down Palou and made his move on the outside with 15 laps to go.
Palou had no response and had to settle for second as Rasmussen continued at full steam to the checkered flag.
“We were talking about, before the race, that if there’s a late caution then we want to go on new tires, because it’s such an advantage,” Rasmussen said during his post-race interview on Fox. “There was more people that didn’t than I thought there would that last stint, but it was definitely the right choice.”

Rasmussen is the first, first-time IndyCar race winner since his fellow Danish driver Christian Lundgaard won at Toronto in 2023.
The result left Palou at eight wins on the season with just the season finale to go and ended his quest to tie A.J. Foyt and Al Unser’s record mark of 10 wins in a season.
Palou clinched the 2025 championship with a third-place finish at Portland and his only two career oval wins came this year at Indianapolis and Iowa.
