Team Penske is parting with Will Power. The IndyCar team confirmed on Tuesday that the two-time IndyCar champion is leaving the team after 17 seasons.

“As we sat down to talk about our future together, Will felt that it was time for him to make a change beginning with next season,” Roger Penske said in an official statement “He has been an outstanding driver and teammate for our organization. His results speak for themselves, and we wish him the very best in the next phase of his career.”

“It’s been the honor of my life to drive for Roger and the Penske organization,” Power said. “We have accomplished so much together, and I will always be grateful for my time with the team and my teammates who have supported me along the way. After much consideration, I felt like a change for me was the right move at this time.”

Power won 42 races with Penske including the 2018 Indy 500. He has 45 overall wins in the top American open wheel class, putting him fourth on the all-time list and won the season championship in 2014 and 2022.

Power won at Portland this year and looked like he was on his way to a storybook win in the IndyCar finale at Nashville Superspeedway when a bad pit stop took him out of contention. His teammate, Josef Newgarden went on to claim the victory. It was only the second for Team Penske in what turned out to be one of its most disappointing seasons, which included a rules violation scandal at the Indy 500 that led to the departure of several team executives.

Team Penske said it would announce the new driver for the No. 12 car at a later date. Speculation in the IndyCar paddock is that A.J. Foyt Racing’s David Malukas is the top contender for the seat. Power did not confirm his own plans for the 2026 season.
