The Ford Performance division is changing its name to Ford Racing after a decade.

Ford Performance was created by combining the U.S.-based Special Vehicles Team and Europe’s Ford Team RS in 2015. It has come to encompass all of Ford’s motorsports efforts along with its top performance production cars and aftermarket parts business.

The move coincides with the upcoming 125th anniversary of Henry Ford’s 1901 Sweepstakes Race win, which helped propel is company toward incorporation in 1903.

Ford is entering Formula 1 with Red Bull Racing next year and will follow that up with a Hypercar class prototype effort in 2027 that will compete at Le Mans.

We will also continue to grow the business both on and off the track through customer racing, our range of performance vehicles and our growing experience and merchandising operations.”

This name change re-emphasizes our core mission, our racing heritage, and simplifies our branding back to our competitive roots. It reminds people of why we race – to infuse the technological innovation and passion we derive from racing, and winning, into the products that our customers can drive every day,” Ford Racing general manager Will Ford, who is the son of Ford Motor Company Chairman Bill Ford, wrote in a blog post on the name change
