Former Formula 1 driver Daniel Ricciardo has joined Ford as a brand ambassador for its newly renamed Ford Racing division.

In a blog post about the move, the Australian said “racing days are behind me” and that he would be focusing on the “Raptor brand and lifestyle that Raptor has become for many of Ford’s customers.”

Ricciardo personally bought a Ford F-150 Raptor in 2017 that he used when spending time at his home in California between races and during the off season when he was with Red Bull Racing, which now has a technical alliance with Ford for its Formula 1 team.

“Taking my bias for “American-made” and deep love for trucks out of the equation, Raptor is becoming a global powerhouse,” Ricciardo wrote. “I’m one of thousands of happy customers. Some of my favourite memories are road tripping behind the wheel of my Raptor, and I can’t wait to add to my existing Raptor ownership, plus meet the customers who are equally passionate about their vehicles.”

While he didn’t use the word “retirement” in the post, it appears to make it clear that he has not plans to return to full-time racing.

The 36-year-old had been rumored to be one of the drivers that the Cadillac Formula 1 Team was looking at before it signed Sergio Perez and Valtteri Bottas.
