Ram has read the room. The truck brand announced that it is canceling plans to launch the fully electric Ram 1500 REV pickup next year due to market conditions.

“As demand for full-size battery electric trucks slows in North America, Stellantis is reassessing its product strategy and will discontinue development of a full-size BEV pickup,” the company said in a news release.

“As part of this, Ram is renaming its REEV-powered (Range-Extended Electric Vehicle) pickup to Ram 1500 REV (formerly Ramcharger). This vehicle will set a new benchmark in the half-ton segment, offering exceptional range, towing capability, and payload performance.”

The all-electric truck had already been postponed to 2027 so that Ram could focus on launching the Ramcharger next year, which has an electric range of 145 miles per charge and a V6 engine that can be used as a generator for longer trips and when towing heavy loads.

The range-extended Ram 1500 REV has a dual-motor all-wheel-drivetrain with a maximum output of 647 hp and 610 lb-ft and a 14,000-pound tow rating. It also has a 2,625-pound payload capacity and can accelerate to 60 mph in 4.5 seconds, which makes it as quick as the discontinued supercharged V8-powered Ram 1500 TRX.

Ram is bringing the TRX back next year, however, presumably with more power than its 702 hp predecessor. It has also recently started shipping the revived Ram 1500 Hemi with a 5.7-liter V8. It is also returning the NASCAR Truck Series with Kaulig Racing, which is switching from Chevrolets and said it will enter up to five trucks in some events.
