The Dodge Durango is the rare SUV these days that is only available with V8 engine options.

Dodge discontinued the V6 Durango for 2026 and will only be offering it with the 5.7-liter V8, 6.4-liter V8 and Hellcat supercharged 6.2-liter V8 … but not everywhere.

Mopar Insiders first reported that the 6.4-liter and Hellcat can’t be ordered in states that follow the emissions regulations established by the California Air Resources Board, or CARB.

CARB’s rules are stricter than the EPA’s and followed by 16 other states, including New York, and Washington, D.C.

The Trump administration has been working to revoke the longstanding waivers that allow California to set its own rules and other states to choose to adopt them, in favor of a single federal mandate.

“The HEMI-powered Durango R/T 392 and the Durango SRT HELLCAT are available in non-CARB states. We’re continuing to evaluate the opportunity to provide the full V8-powered Durango lineup to all customers,” Dodge confirmed to the outlet.
