The Buick GNX is revving up again. The 1987 model is one of the legends of the American muscle car scene.

The coupe was a collaboration between Buick and McLaren Performance Technologies/ASC. It is powered by a turbocharged 3.8-liter V6 that was officially rated at 276 hp and 400 lb-ft.

Independent tests discovered that it was actually more powerful than that and could sprint to 60 mph in 4.7-second 0-60 mph time and cover a quarter-mile in 13.4 seconds, which made it one of the quickest cars in the world at the time. It had an MSRP of $29,290 and just 547 were built, all of which were painted black.

After decades as something of a historical footnote, the GNX became of the hottest tickets on the auction circuit a few years ago, with sale prices hitting a crescendo of $308,000 in 2022. Since then, its value has been trending down a bit, but it may be turning the corner.

One with 843 miles on its odometer was sold on Bring a Trailer in August for $255,000 and another went for $242,000 on Sept. 12.

The latest showed 584 miles on its odometer, which is just 16 more than the $308,000 car had, but the seller notes mention it has replaced bumper fillers and some scratched and dull spots on the paint. The only thing that doesn’t work, however, is the power antenna.

While many GNXs have yet to break into four digit mileage — there’s even one that was sold in 2021 for $275,000 with 8.7 miles on it — a few were driven like real cars, at least for a while, and their values reflect it.

An 82,000-mile car was auctioned on Bring a Trailer in January for $101,987 and another with 100,615 miles on it was listed on Facebook Marketplace in February at a fixed $95,000 asking price.
