IndyCar’s David Malukas Signs With Team Penske

It was the silly season move everyone was waiting for.
Team Penske has signed 23-year-old David Malukas to take over the No. 12 seat that was vacated with the departure of Will Power after 17 seasons with the team.
Malukas is coming from A.J. Foyt Racing, where he scored five top 10 finishes that included a runner-up result in the Indy 500 and finished 11th place result in the 2025 season standings. His move to Team Penske was widely expected.
“We are excited to add David Malukas as the next driver of the No. 12 Verizon Chevrolet,” team owner Roger Penske said in a news release. “We feel that Team Penske will provide David everything needed to take the next step in his career, and we are confident that he will continue the great legacy of the Verizon Chevrolet.”

“Will Power is one of the legends of our sport and the No. 12 Verizon Chevrolet is one of the most-recognized cars on the grid. These are big shoes to fill, but I look at it as an opportunity because I know that it is one of the best teams in the paddock,” Malukas said.
Power will be taking over for Colon Herta in the No. 26 Andretti Global car as he looks to add to his 45 career wins, which is fourth best. behind Mario Andretti’s 52.

With the signing of Malukas, Team Penske’s three-car roster is full as Josef Newgarden and Scott McLaughlin are both returning to the team.
The 2026 IndyCar season kicks off in St. Petersburg, Fla., on March 1 and includes new races in Arlington, Texas, and Markham, Canada.
