Mazda Launching A Cheaper US-Built Off-Road CX-50 For 2026

Mazda is expanding its CX-50 lineup with a new, more affordable off-road model for 2026.
The Alabama-built SUV’s rugged Meridian Edition trim was previously only available with the CX-50’s 2.5-liter four-cylinder turbocharged engine, but will now also be offered with the entry-level 2.5-liter four-cylinder naturally aspirated engine at a much lower price.
The CX-50 2.5 S Meridian Edition starts at $34,645 and the CX-50 2.5 Turbo Meridian Edition at $41,895.
The 2.5 S engine is rated at 187 hp and 185 lb-ft running on regular gas. Unlike many automakers, Mazda releases detailed power ratings for its top engines for both regular 87 octane and premium 93 octane gas, and the Turbo’s are 227 hp with 310 lb-ft and 256 hp with 320 lb-ft, respectively.

The Meridian Edition package includes 18-inch wheels with all-terrain tires, black roof rails that can support an optional platform and up to 165 pounds while driving, scuff-proof rocker panel garnishes, a hood graphic and additional black trim pieces.
The Meridian Editions are meant more for trails than extreme terrain, but have 8.3 inches (2.5 S) and 8.6 inches (.25 Turbo) of ground clearance and standard all-wheel-drive, as do all CX-50s. Their maximum towing capacities are 1,500 pounds (2.5 S) and 3,500 pounds (2.5 Turbo).
Prices for the entire CX-50 range have been updated for 2026 with the entry-level 2.5 S Select now starting at $31,395, which is $600 less than the 2025 model. Base prices for 2.5 Turbos range from $39,395 to $44,395.

Mazda also continues to offer a CX-50 Hybrid with a 219 hp, 163 lb-ft powertrain that’s good for 38 mpg combined, while the 2.5 S is rated at 28 mpg and the 2.5 Turbo at 25 mpg. CX-50 Hybrid prices start at $36,245, but the trim range doesn’t include a Meridian Edition. Shipments of the 2026 CX-50s are scheduled to begin by the end of September.
