Ram’s new midsize truck is on the move.

The all-new pickup that’s in development was originally slated to be built at the idled factory in Belvidere, Ill., that previously produced the Jeep Compass, but will be manufactured at the automaker’s Toledo Assembly Complex instead.

The truck, which has not yet been revealed, is expected to be ready by 2028 and manufactured alongside the Jeep Wrangler and Jeep Gladiator. That suggests it could share components with the latter, which is also a midsize model pickup.

The announcement didn’t actually use the presumed brand name “Ram” to describe the new truck, so we’ll leave that open to interpretation, as Ram was part of the Dodge brand until it was spun-off in 2009.

The change is part of a $13 billion U.S. manufacturing investment plan Stellantis outlined on Tuesday that included several other significant model updates and increase U.S. production by 50%.

Instead of the pickup, Jeep is bringing Cherokee production back to Belvidere and will also build a new Compass there, starting in 2027. This will represents additional production capacity for both models. The 2026 Cherokee that goes on sale this year is manufactured in Mexico and the all-new Compass, which doesn’t yet have a U.S. launch date, is built in Italy.

A new full-size SUV with both internal combustion and range-extended electric drivetrains is also coming to the Warren assembly plant in Michigan in 2028, where the Jeep Grand Wagoneer is built with the same options.

As with the new midsize pickup, a brand for the models was not specified. Ram recently cancelled plans to call its upcoming range-extended electric pickup the Ramcharger, which had historically been used on full-size Dodge SUVs, not pickups.

Finally, a fully redesigned Dodge Durango is on the way, but not until 2029. The current version of the midsize SUV has been on sale since 2011 with only mild updates along the way. In a major shift for 2026, the V6-powered models were discontinued and it is only available with V8 engines.
