Ford Just Sold A Used Car For $742,500

Even car companies have to clear out the garage now an then. Ford has a fleet of hundreds of historic cars that includes milestone production models, prototypes, concepts and old media cars.
They used to be scattered around without much rhyme or reason, but were recently consolidated into a formal Ford Heritage Fleet for preservation.
Space and money aren’t unlimited, however, so Ford recently put one of the cars up for auction to free up some room and pick up a couple of bucks to put towards the collection’s upkeep.
The 2006 Ford GT was the third of 343 cars produced with a $13,000 Heritage Edition paint scheme inspired by the iconic Gulf-sponsored GT40s that raced at Le Mans. It is powered by a 5.4-liter supercharged V8 rated at 550 hp and 500 lb-ft of torque.

The power is sent to the rear wheels through a six-speed manual transmission, making it likely the last old-school supercar Ford will ever make. The 2017 GT that followed it and current Mustang GTD both feature dual-clutch automatic transmissions.

The GT was used for promotional purposes by the company and press and racked up 8,435 miles during its life, plus two minor accidents noted on its CarFax report. There’s no hiding from one of those, regardless of who owns the vehicle, but the car has been fully repaired and is picture perfect.

Ford sent it across the block at the Barrett-Jackson Scottsdale Fall auction, where it sold for $742,500. That’s actually a pretty good deal for the model and likely a reflection of its hard use.

An example with 71 miles on it was sold at a Mecum Auctions event in January for $1,001,000 and another with 377 miles at a Mecum event in August for $891,000.
