New Cybertruck Recall Reveals Tesla Has Built 63,619 Of The Electric Pickups

Tesla doesn’t release Cybertruck production figures, but sometimes the government does that for it.
A new safety recall that has been issued for the electric pickup because its parking lights are too bright says there were 63,619 Cybertrucks built from Nov.13, 2023 through Oct. 11, 2025, three days before the recall was posted on Oct. 14.
A full 100% of the vehicles have the defect, which was due to the vehicle controller software allowing them to exceed the maximum permissible intensity allowed by federal regulations.
The fix only required an over the air software update that has already been sent to the vehicles, but owners and Tesla stores will still be notified via mail, as required by law.

Most of those Cybertrucks were sold in 2024. Cox Automotive estimates that just 16,097 were delivered through the first three quarters of 2025, which was down from 25,974 during the same period in 2024, when 38,965 were sold over the full year.
The Ford F-150 Lightning is the top-selling electric pickup so far this year with 23,034 deliveries through September.
Prior to the start of production, Tesla said more than one million customers had placed reservations for Cybertrucks, but stopped requiring them for purchase in Aug. 2024.
Tesla’s other models have been faring much better than the Cybertruck. The company posted all-time record sales in the third quarter when car shoppers were rushing to beat the Sept. 30 deadline for the now discontinued federal electric vehicle tax credit.
According to J.D. Power, EVs accounted for 12.9% of the market in September, but are tracking for just 5.3% in October. Tesla’s next sales report won’t be issued until the end of the year.
