To Infiniti and beyond, indeed.

As a Japanese-built SUV from a Japanese brand, the Infiniti QX80 isn’t directly in the American Cars And Racing coverage area, but the QX80 R-Spec is just to awesome to ignore.

Infiniti has built a custom version of its flagship SUV for the upcoming SEMA Show in Las Vegas that’s powered by a 1,000 hp version of the Nissan GT-R’s turbocharged 3.8-liter V6.

That’s more than twice the output of the stock 450 hp turbocharged 3.5-liter V6 and there are plenty of other updates to go with it.

The monster motor breathes through the GT-R’s quad exhaust and the full-size SUV’s suspension has been modified with adjustable coilover shocks and Eibach springs.

Carbon-ceramic brakes handle the stopping and are wrapped in foot-wide, 24-inch wheels designed with the same style as the GT-R’s and accommodated by a widebody kit that’s accented by a jutting front splitter and color-shifting purple wrap.

The only thing on sale today that even comes close is the Cadillac Escalade-V, which has a 682 hp supercharged 6.2-liter V8 and starts at $170,595.

It’s too outrageous to expect Infiniti to ever build a production version like the QX80 R-Spec, but it may do a milder performance version of the QX80 one day. Better still for American Cars And Racing, it is considering moving QX80 and Nissan Armada production to its factory in Mississippi, which means we could write about the QX80 all the time without having to make any excuses. The QX80 R-Spec certainly doesn’t.
