The new Scout lineup doesn’t go on sale until 2027, but the VW-owned brand already has 130,000 reservations for the rebooted trucks.

Scout CEO Scott Keogh revealed the number during an interview with Bloomberg. along with another bit of information, InsideEVs reported.

The Scout will be offered as the Terra Pickup and Traveler SUV and both were designed primarily as all-electric vehicles.

However, the South Carolina-built trucks will also be available with small gas engines that can work generators for long trips where there aren’t any convenient chargers.

“Look, the market has spoken. Over 80% of the reservations are for the range extender,” Keogh told Bloomberg.

The all-electric models are expected to deliver 350 miles per charge, while the range-extender will add about 150 miles per tank to that and can be refilled as quickly as any gasoline-fueled vehicle. Quicker, since they will have small tanks.

Ram and Jeep are also scheduled to launch a range-extended electric Ram 1500 REV pickup and Grand Wagoneer SUV next year with a similar setup.

Despite the slowing pace of EV adoption, particularly in the larger truck segments, Keogh said he doesn’t expect Scout to ever offer a traditional internal combustion engine vehicle.

“The world is still heading electric. The technology is there, the innovation is there. We are in the early stages. Tech is only getting better, our costs are only going to go down, and we want to make sure Scout is prepared for the next 100 years. We’re not building a two-year brand,” he said.

Along with the Ram and Jeep, Scout will be competing with Rivian and Hummer’s all-electric pickups and SUVs as well as the all-electric Jeep Recon that is scheduled to go on sale in the second quarter of 2026.
