Not So Fast: Dodge Just Resurrected The Durango V6

It’s hard to keep up with Dodge.
In January 2024, it announced it was discontinuing all of the V8 engine options for the Durango and launched a line of limited edition “Last Call” models to see them out.
But by August, it had a change of heart and extended the life of the 5.7-liter V8 and supercharged Hellcat 6.2-liter V8 into 2025.
Flash forward one year and it didn’t just decide to bring the 6.4-liter V8 back to the lineup, but said it would not be offering the entry-level 3.6-liter V6 option anymore. Well, it just shifted into reverse again.
“Dodge Durango is on a tear,” Dodge CEO Matt McAlear said in a news release. “This year, Durango ranked No. 1 in the J.D. Power APEAL Study for Upper Midsize SUVs, we launched the new Durango SRT Hellcat Jailbreak with seven million potential customization options, brought back B5 Blue exterior color … and announced the HEMI engine in the all-wheel-drive Durango GT. Our strategy is working. The Hemi is hot, Durango recently achieved its best Q3 sales in 20 years, and to keep that sales momentum going, we’re re-opening orders for the V6 Durango GT to help us meet Durango demand while supply of the Hemi engines ramps up.”

V8-powered Durangos have standard all-wheel-drive and the entry-level trim is a GT Hemi AWD that lists for $44,960 with the 360 hp 5.7-liter V8. Pricing for the 6.4-liter models will be released early next year, but the 710 hp Hellcat models start at $81,990.
