A Time Capsule 1992 Ford Mustang Driven Just 132-Miles Was Just Sold For $72,500

A like-new 1992 Ford Mustang LX has been sold for more than an actually new Mustang.
The notchback coupe was kept in storage by its original owner until this year and showed just 132 miles on the odometer when it was put up for auction on Bring a Trailer. The story of why they barely drove it remains untold.
The Emerald Green Mustang has a 5.0-liter V8, five-speed manual transmission and is equipped with a Preferred Equipment Package that added 16-inch Pony alloy wheels, a power driver seat, air conditioning, cruse control and other premium features.
The original price on the window sticker is $15,674. That would be roughly $35,000 today and is the starting price for a new Mustang EcoBoost. The 1992 Mustang’s V8 is officially rated at 225 hp, 300 lb-ft, while the turbocharged 2.3-liter in the Mustang EcoBoost is rated at 315 hp and 350 lb-ft.

But the 1992 Mustang went for double the EcoBoost’s price with a closing bid of $72,500, which is more than a Mustang Dark Horse costs with its 500 hp V8.

Third generation “Fox Body” Mustangs are starting to hit their stride as collector cars and a 1990 LX V8 with 1,900 miles on it was sold on Bring a Trailer in June for $80,000.

Meanwhile, the far rarer 1993 SVT Cobra model has skyrocketed in value, with two selling for more than $200,000 this year, according to Classic.com.
