The eighth generation Corvette Stingray is soldiering into its seventh model year in 2026 with Chevy’s tried and true 6.2-liter V8, but something bigger may be coming in 2027.

General Motors will be launching a lineup of all-new sixth generation V8 engines in 2027 for its light duty trucks and, presumably, some cars. The automaker has invested $888 million in the new engines, which will be built at its Tonawanda Propulsion plant in New York.

Details on the new motors haven’t been released, but rumor had it that they will be offered in 5.7-liter and 6.6-liter displacements. New information suggests that the later is incorrect.

A new entry that popped up in the GM Parts Book was shared by a technician with access to it with the Corvette Blogger website. It clearly lists a sixth generation LS6 engine that is an eight-cylinder with an aluminum block, overhead valves, port and direct fuel injection that runs on gas and has a 6.7-liter displacement. It is posted with a Regular Production Option code, but is not tied to a specific vehicle model.

Given that this is the plant where the current 6.2-liter is built, it’s likely that a version of the engine will be shared with the Corvette. Chevrolet has not yet made any announcements, but prototypes of new Corvette spotted being tested on public roads look and sound different than any model on sale today.

That would suggest the new engine will either replace the 495 hp 6.2-liter in the Corvette Stingray and Corvette E-Ray hybrid, or be used as a launching pad for a new Corvette Grand Sport. Previous Grand Sports have bridged the gap between the Stingray and Z06 by combining elements from the two trims.

The Z06 is powered by a naturally aspirated 5.5-liter V8 built at the Performance Build Center that’s adjacent to the Bowling Green Assembly plant where the Corvette is manufactured. A turbocharged version is used in the ZR1 and ZR1X, but it is not featured in any other GM products.

Another model that could be getting the 6.2-liter V8 is the Cadillac CT5, which has been confirmed for a 2027 redesign. Today’s top of the line CT5-V Blackwing is powered by a supercharged 6.2-liter V8, so it’s possible that an upgrade based on the 6.7-liter is in the works.
