Jeep And Chrysler’s Plug-In Hybrids Have Been Discontinued For Good

The planned plug-in hybrid Jeep Gladiator 4xe pickup never made it into production and now the rest of Jeep’s and Chrysler’s plug-in hybrid models are out of production.
The brands’ parent company Stellantis confirmed to The Drive that the Chrysler Pacifica Hybrid, Jeep Wrangler 4xe and Jeep Grand Cherokee 4xe have all been discontinued.
The Jeeps had been under a stop-sale order following a recall affecting 154,032 vehicles to address a defect that could lead to battery fires, for which a remedy is still being developed. The Wrangler 4xe had been the best-selling plug-in hybrid in the U.S. for several years when it qualified for the federal tax credit for electric vehicle purchases that ended on Sept. 2025.
“Stellantis continually evaluates its product strategy to meet evolving customer needs and regulatory requirements. With customer demand shifting, Stellantis will phase out plug?in hybrid (PHEV) programs in North America beginning with the 2026 model year, and focus on more competitive electrified solutions, including hybrid and range?extended vehicles where they best meet customer needs,” a Stellantis spokesperson told the outlet.

“This approach reinforces the company’s commitment to offering advanced propulsion systems that maximize efficiency and provide options from internal combustion to hybrid range?extended, and fully electric solutions.”
Jeep is scheduled to launch the 37 mpg hybrid Cherokee and range-extended electric Jeep Grand Wagoneer this year, while Chrysler’s lineup currently consists of just conventionally-powered Pacifica and Voyager minivans.
A range-extended electric vehicle differs from a plug-in hybrid in that it primarily operates as a short-range EV, but has a gas engine on board that only functions as an electricity generator for longer trips and does not have a direct mechanical connection to the wheels.
Ram will be the first with a range-extended electric vehicle when the Ram 1500 REV debuts later this year with 145 miles of all-electric range, 690 miles of total range and an all-wheel-drive system with 647 hp and 610 lb-ft of torque that can tow up to 14,000 pounds.
