The Cadillac Formula 1 Team’s car has made its first track outing at Silverstone in the U.K. ahead of the first official test event in Barcelona Jan 26-30.

The all-black, bare carbon fiber car was taking part in a filming and shakedown session where driver Sergio Perez got to wring out the Ferrari-sourced powertrain.

Cadillac will be the Italian automaker’s customer until the power units being developed by General Motors are ready in 2029.

The all-new 2026 Formula 1 power unit rules call for a 50/50 power split between a turbocharged 1.6-liter V6 and an electric motor and it can be heard in a video posted on social media by Cadillac.

Additional clips were captured by other people present at the event.

“Today represents countless hours of hard work, commitment and belief from everyone involved in the team. It shows the progress we’re continuing to make in a short space of time,” Team Principal Graeme Lowdon said. “It’s been a great opportunity for the team to gel in a live garage environment, verify car systems and resolve any initial issues. But it’s just the beginning of the road; we now turn our attention to pre-season testing in just a few weeks’ time, which will provide even more opportunity to learn.”

“Today was really an amazing day,” Perez said. “Everyone should feel incredibly proud to complete our first laps as a team. Each and every person has worked so hard to get to this moment and it was emotional to be part of motorsport history. We can, and should, all enjoy, but it’s absolutely fired me up for more. I just want to get back in and get mileage – this is just the start.”

Cadillac this week revealed the camouflage black and white livery its two cars will feature at the Barcelona test, while the race livery will debut in a commercial set to run during the Super Bowl on Feb. 8.
