NASCAR has a big surprised panned for February 12.
The stock car racing series has posted a teaser video to social media with the caption, “Something cool is coming.”
The 15-second clip shows a car under a black sheet that starts getting pulled off of just as the video cuts to the date 02.12.22 and then the phrase “Things are about to get way cooler.”
The shape of the car shows through the sheet and appears to have a sloping front end that incorporates the windshield and hood in almost a single plane, like a Tesla Cybertruck, but it could be an illusion. The background noise appears to be a mix of a cheering crowd and an electric motor noise, but it’s hard to say for certain.
NASCAR has demonstrated electric racing cars with SUV-style bodies in the past, but has not indicated that anything new was in the works.
The crisp leading edge on its own is also similar to the new Dodge Charger’s. Dodge is known to be working on a Cup Series entry. It hasn’t confirmed what year it plans to start, but Tim Kuniskis, the head of all of Stellantis’ American brands, said he was still hopeful it could happen in 2027.
