The Subaru Forester Hybrid has immigrated to America for 2026. Production of the compact SUV moved from Japan to Indiana, where all Foresters for the U.S. market are now made.
Subaru also took the opportunity to lower the starting price by $1,865 to $36,180 for an entry-level Premium trim. Subaru didn’t explain the adjustment, but a 15% tariff was added to Japanese vehicle imports last year.
The Forester Hybrid uses a Toyota-sourced all-wheel-drive powertrain that’s similar to the one found in the Rav4 Hybrid. It is rated at 194 hp, 199 lb-ft of torque and delivers 35 mpg combined. It is also offered in Sport ($39,380), Touring ($40,445) and ($42,995.).
American Cars And Racing recently tested one of the Japan-sourced 2025 models and found the powertrain to be a good match for the Forester, which was fully redesigned for 2025.

If hybrids aren’t your thing, Subaru still offers the Forester with a 180 hp four-cylinder engine at a $31,445 base price, which makes it the 12th least-expensive vehicle that’s made in USA, while the smaller Crosstrek that is built alongside it is number six on the list at $28,415.
