Wonder Boy can wrench!
Four-time NASCAR Cup Series champion Jeff Gordon recently stopped by Chevrolet’s Bowling Green Assembly plant in Kentucky to help the crew put the finishing touches on his new Corvette ZR1X.
The Hendrick Motorsports vice chairman took part in the Corvette Custom Engine Build experience at the facility’s Performance Build Center, which is an available option for Corvette Z06, ZR1 and ZR1X buyers.
It’s a long-time program that had been on hiatus for a few years, but is being resurrected this spring. The new price hasn’t been announced, but it was $5,000 the last time around.
The program lets you tag along with a master technician who helps you through the process of assembling the V8, installing the manifold and even strapping on the turbos. The engine is also bench tested during the process and has a commemorative plaque with your name on it installed.

It’s a full day affair that ran from 9:39 a.m. to 2:55 p.m for Gordon, who brought his father along. The car that it was installed in was not revealed, but Gordon buys at least one new Corvette each year and auctions it through the Jeff Gordon Children’s Foundation to raise money for pediatric cancer research.
