Hyundai has issued a stop-sale order for the 2026 Palisade SUV in Limited and Calligraphy trims due to a safety issue with their second- and third-row power folding seats and plans to recall approximately 68,500 to fix the problem.
The move comes after a two-year-old Ohio girl was killed by the operation of a seat in one of the models. Full details from the incident have not been released, but Hyundai said in a news release that it “extends its deepest sympathies to her family.”
Both rows of seats can be folded flat and the second row has a one-touch tilt-and-slide function that moves it out of the way for entry to the third row. Hyundai said the seats may not adequately detect an person or object, which should cause them to stop as a safety precaution.
Hyundai is developing an interim software update to mitigate the issue, which will be sent over-the-air to all of the affected vehicles, but is also working on a further recall repair. It cautions owners to make sure no one is in a seat when using the power-fold feature and not to touch the secondary one-touch tilt-and-slide activation button located on the back of the second-row seats during entry and exit.

The South Korea-built Palisade is all-new for 2026 and was named North American Utility Vehicle of the Year. It is Hyundai’s most expensive model and was its fourth best-selling model through the first two months of the year.
