The Fastest Nürburgring Times By American Cars
The Ford Mustang GTD made history this year by becoming the first production car from an American brand to lap the 12.9-mile Nürburgring Nordschleife race track in less than seven minutes.
The 815 hp Mustang clocked a time of 6:57.685, which put it among the five fastest models to post official times at the benchmark circuit.
It’s not the first American car to be put to the test, however, and several have impressed at the track.
Here’s a look at the best of the rest.
2017 DODGE VIPER ACR – 7:01.3
The 645 hp Dodge Viper ACR was designed to attack tracks and it came oh so close to breaking the seven-minute mark at the ‘Ring when fielded by a private entry backed by crowdfunding from fans.

2019 CORVETTE ZR1 – 7:05 (UNOFFICIAL)
The 755 HP 2019 Chevrolet Corvette ZR1 was extensively tested at the Nürburgring and along the way it posted a 7:05 lap time, but it wasn’t during an formal record attempt on a closed track and was never submitted for certification.

2024 CHEVROLET CORVETTE Z06 – 7:10.51 (UNOFFICIAL)
Germany’s Sport Auto magazine took a 670 hp 2024 Chevrolet Corvette Z06 to the Nürburgring and came away with a 7:10.51 lap that was far from perfectly executed and isn’t on the official list.
2015 CHEVROLET CORVETTE Z06 – 7:13.90
Chevrolet never posted an official time for the 650 hp seventh-generation Corvette Z06, but Sport Auto magazine hustled one around it in 7:13.9 to set what was then a record for American cars on the track.

2017 CHEVROLET CAMARO ZL1 1LE – 7:16.04
The 650 hp 2017 Camaro ZL1 will go down in history as the most potent version of the pony car ever made and, equipped with the track-focused 1LE aerodynamics and handling package, it was a true ‘Ringmeister.

2012 CHEVROLET CORVETTE ZR1 – 7:19.63
The 638 hp 2012 Chevrolet Corvette ZR1 was the most powerful car General Motors had ever built at the time and its Nürburgring time held up well against its European and Japanese peers.
