For the past 110 years since the Cadillac L-head engine debuted in 1914, American car shoppers could’ve had a V8.

But they might not be able to much longer.

The shift to more efficient small-displacement engines, hybrids and electric motors continues and V8s are disappearing from dealerships.

The classic engine type is hanging on by a thread, however, and there are a few cars, SUVs and light duty trucks from the major U.S. automakers that still offer it.
