The midsize pickup segment is hotter than it’s been in years.
Seven models are currently available and that’s not even counting the compact Ford Maverick and Hyundai Santa Cruz.
Some are much better investments than others, however, and iSeeCars.com has looked at recent sales of five-year-old models to find out which ones hold their value the best.
7. HONDA RIDGELINE
The Honda Ridgeline stands out in this crowd as the only pickup that’s based on a unibody platform, which is shares with the Honda Pilot SUV. The model was redesigned 2021 to make it look more like a truck, which may have contributed to a residual value of 62.2% the original purchase price of older examples.
6. NISSAN FRONTIER
The Nissan Frontier’s roots go back a lot farther than five years as its bones date back to 2005, but it’s 67.3% residual value is significantly better than the Ridgeline’s.

5. CHEVROLET COLORADO
The Chevrolet Colorado returned to the automaker’s lineup in 2015 and has been one of the top sellers since then, but its 67.3% residual value is the same as the Frontier’s.
4. GMC CANYON
The GMC Canyon is a mechanical twin to the Colorado and positioned slightly upscale, which may explain its slightly higher residual value of 68%.
3. FORD RANGER
The Ford Ranger also took a hiatus between 2012 and 2019 and has held up well since its return with a 69.9% residual value.
2. JEEP GLADIATOR
The Jeep Gladiator is unique among these trucks as the only one with a removable roof … and doors! Its 70.3% resale value outclasses the domestic competition, but falls far short of the top truck.

The Toyota Tacoma is notoriously reliable and has one of the highest residual values of any vehicle on sale at 77.6% after five years. That might also be why it is has been the best selling midsize truck for a long time.
